Q - I was gutted to find out the Rob Avery left you guys, and before that darrel hyde left, and there both Bassists,.....see where im coming from with this? also how is Rob Eherebrad settling in?

A - Well we Had Darrell for about 4 years , but we found that it was hard to make desisons with him, so we asked if he would leave the band, which of course happened. Rob actually left on his own recently, apperently he did not enjoy being in the band anymore, I dont know what the real reason was , but i have my suspicions, but we not a band to let things like this get in our way and stop us. We have and always will try and put one foot infront of the other and move forward, its probably good that rob left actually, Robert is working out much better, we agree more than we ever did with Rob, and we get along better than ever now

I think the worst thing that has happened over the last few months was the way we lost rob, then a week or so later we parted company with our tour manager of the last 5 years, he was more a friend than a tour manager

Q - I read people calling you Hardcore, post hardcore, nu-metal and alsorts of weird shit, if you had to pigeon hole you sound, what you describe it as?

A - It's hard to say really , we have always considered ourselves to be hardcore/punk band , and although we are influenced by so many different things.

Q - For anyone who has heard your songs , they willobviously notice that your a very Political band, what kick started you into doing political lyrics

A - Well when we first got together we decided that we should/wanted to have have a strong message behind our music, there are too many bands out there that sing about love, hate, whatever, thats just a bit bland sometimes, so we thought we would try and change that , open people up, help them learn as well as teaching ourselvs at the same time, and hopefully tyr and make a difference in the world, you only have one chance in life, so you better go for wht you belive in and make the most of it.

A - Over recent years there seems to be an ever growing split between HC and punk, and as you are a big band in the HC scene, why do you think this split has happend?

A - I know what you mean! i dont know why its happening, maybe its because both are getting more commercialized , which is'mt neccessarily a bad thing, it just depends on how the bands conduct there buisness. On a hole i think Hardcore attracts the young listeners andpunk is has more of an older following, but thats just a guess.

Q - Who were the main influnces on you music/lyrics?

A - Lyricaly Dead Kennedys were our biggest influnce , with the politics they used in there songs, we just love old Hardcore/punk bands that went out and tryed to make sociaty a better place, Musically its to hard to say, we all like different styles of music, so we just use all them

Q - Whats did you guys do before you were a band ?

A - Not alot really , but Chad use to work at Mc donalds for about a month back when we first started, he fucking hates the place now

Q - Alot has been said about you signing to Wind up, was there any reason why you signed for a such a big label?

A - We just thought it would be better to be a full time band, and have the best outlet for music, people say we "sold out" by singing to them, but what you have to realise is that when your working with indepedemt labels, you dont get much lea way, for example , when we recorded " In Chrysalis" we were cramming studio time with touring, so we couldnt really give the record our full attention, where as when we recored " Tommorow comes today" we had a whole 3 months to record, we good do anything, whenever we wanted, less restrictions. So far its been good , somethings are great and other's suck, but thats like any relationship. As for a reason why we signed, well it just felt like the right thing to do, and we hope to make the most of it

Q -if you could pick Out of all the records you have made, which was the most fun to make?

A - "Tommorow comes today" was probably the most fun we have ever had making a record, 3 months in sunny L.A, it was great to be able to relax and just really concentrate on the Album

Q - So what does the future hold for Boy sets fire?

A - well were planning to take a rest after the next few months of touring , and were hoping to have a new album out by early 05 , but im just looking forward to rest, im not complaning, i am getting to what i love for a living , but when you have been away form your family and love ones for 13 weeks solid, you tend to find it hard, but they fully support us in what we are doing so its not really an issue.

I'd like to thank Matt and Nathan for taking the time to do this interview, for info on there upcoming release vist www.boysetsfire.com
